ANEW-LIFE – Supporting Ukraine’s clean energy transition

Despite the challenges of ongoing conflict, Ukrainian cities are stepping forward to lead the clean energy transition. ANEW-LIFE is a European-funded project committed to empowering local governments and communities to rebuild a cleaner, more resilient energy infrastructure in Ukraine.

ANew Life

With a contribution of FifthVolt, ANEW-LIFE develops and tests innovative financing mechanisms that make urban energy reconstruction not only possible, but sustainable. Starting with three pilot cities—Zhytomyr, Kalush, and Nizhyn — the project lays the foundation for broader national and European replication.

Key Objectives

  1. Co-Creation of Clean Energy Plans
Developing bottom-up methodologies and financing instruments that support city-led energy planning
  2. Innovative Financing Tools
Validating new financial models informed by advanced energy modelling and direct stakeholder engagement
  3. Replication Across Ukraine and the EU
Sharing results and methodologies with at least 10 Ukrainian and 10 European cities, promoting broad adoption
  4. Sustainability and Long-Term Impact
Assessing the project’s replicability, sustainability, and contribution to Ukraine’s energy independence

Impact

ANEW-LIFE is more than a project—it’s a blueprint for energy resilience. Through a combination of technical innovation and social collaboration, we aim to:

By validating tools and methods in real Ukrainian cities, ANEW-LIFE sets the stage for tangible, scalable results throughout Europe.
